In order to organize a large chess festival in Munich, chess players from Munich have founded a supporting association, Schachfestival München e.V. The association is open to all those interested in chess who support the idea of the Munich Chess Festival - regardless of whether they belong to a chess club or not.

The Schachfestival München e.V. has a three-member board, which is also mainly responsible for organizing the chess festival:
